Welcome December and the Coming New Year

Reminders for December and the New Year

Dec. 12- Book Report Due...Be prepared to share.
Dec. 16- Geometry Projects Due.
Dec. 19- Class Party and Book Exchange. Bring wrapped books in next week/ Book Buddies today
Dec. 22- Jan 5- Christmas Holidays
Jan. 6- Book It Forms Due and Reading Log for the second quarter.
Jan. 26-29- Conference Schedule-Letters went home about specific days and times if you need a request. Siblings will be scheduled together.

Please practice multiplication facts! Everyone has a set of flash cards we made in class. Also, read daily. We will go to the library for check out Thursday.

The Science Lab will be up and running after the break. It will be added to our daily rotation. Thanks to all who supported the Boosterthon! The children will really enjoy this part of the schedule....and there will be lots of learning taking place! Who knows we may have a doctor or pharmacist in the making.....

A BIG THANK YOU to the parents who are coming in to do a craft withthe kids. If you still want to come in let me know ASAP....the days are going by fast!

Milkshake's Plans for the holiday. I will put the names in a drawing to take Milkshake home for the break. The plan is one child will take her home for a week and then swap and let the other child keep her and bring her back to school. I will provide food and some bedding. Remember bottled water for her drinking pleasure. If you want to be put in the drawing send me an e-mail or write a note in the agenda.

Hope everyone has a restful holiday with their family and friends! I'm looking forward to a New Year of learning with the kids and to really move forward with good behavior, and a focus on the curriculum.

Red Ribbon Week-October 20-24

Red Ribbon Week! Check your child's agenda each night to see what to wear for the next day! Everyone received a red bracelet on Monday to wear all week to remind them not to take drugs! Today was crazy sock and slipper day...Sock it to Drugs! Tomorrow is mix and match clothes...Don't get mixed up in drugs! We will be doing a health lesson on Friday about Choosing healthy alternatives to drugs.

*Don't forget to send in school supplies for the class we have adopted at Brown Elementary. Thanks for the donations so far!

* We have visit planned with our Book Buddies this Friday! We will be interviewing them and giving them a picture. I have those ready to give the kids.

*Thanks for all of the reading you are doing! Don't forget to record reading for Stampede to Read, Book It, and Reading Log. Please send the first quarter one in....it is yellow in color.

*I will be sending a Book Order home next Thursday if anyone missed out on the book fair or the last book order. I will collect orders the following week.

*I hope everyone is reading their "Mystery Book" for the report due November 7th.
Get organized! I can't wait to see your creations. Also, plan to present it to the class!

Welcome Fall

Hope everyone has been able to get out and enjoy this beautiful weather. I love this time of year! Thanks to all of the children for a great week of testing. You all got so into the routine, I think we could have gone on another week! Parents, you should be very proud of your kids!
There are a lot of things happening at Ford and in the classroom this month. Here are a few happenings!
I look forward to hearing the poetry shares Thursday and Friday. Thanks for all of the hard work you put into practicing and being prepared to present.
Book It began on Oct. 1st. Read 400minutes for the month of Oct and earn a pizza coupon and a chance for a prize at the end of the year.
Oct. 4- Movie Night on the lawn at Ford. 6:30 are raffles, karaoke, etc. The movie will begin around 7:45.
Oct. 6-10- Scholastic Book Fair at Ford. Please visit if you get a chance.
We will preview on Oct. 6th.
Art Awareness with Mrs. Collier is Oct. 8th/ Mystery Reader-Oct. 10th
Oct. 13- Environmental Field Trip to Cato Environmental Center in Austell. Our Earth Mom is invited to go with us!
Oct. 15- Early Release/ Hat Day- Pay $1 to support Relay for Life
Oct. 17- First Report Card/ Mystery Reader/ Oct. 24th and Oct. 31- Mystery Readers
Oct. 31- Happy Halloween!

Selected News for September

We are in full swing with testing in our class! Thank you for your patience today, while we gave directions and got everything organized. We will be testing through next week, so come to school rested, fed, and ready to do your best! Homework will be less, but you will be expected to read and practice your poem. Thanks for helping us out with snacks next week. This gives us something to look forward to!

We have great writers and artists in our class! I hope you will take advantage of using these talents in the Reflections contests. Information went home Monday. This year's theme is ...WOW! Make sure your form is filled out and completed entries are due: Oct. 1.

I know Milkshake is looking forward to going to a new home this weekend. Rembember, if you want to take her home over the weekend, I need a note or e-mail letting me know it is o.k. You will need to be a car rider on that Friday.

Our next unit in math is Multiplication. We will be making flash cards in a few weeks. If you have anything at home to practice your facts, please start working on them. It's never too early!

Book Reports assignments will begin in October. Be looking for a good fictional book to do your first report on. I will give the assignment sometime soon after the poetry share.

Please make reading a part of your day everyday! We visit the Media Center once a week. I also don't mind you using my chapter books in the class. Just make sure you return it when you are finished!

I know you are enjoying your time with Mrs. Birkbeck in Science. She has the same expectations as I do! Go in to class prepared and stay focused, so you can learn about Rocks and Mineral.

Fall is in the air! Look around you and see if you can find a leaf that is changing color. The world is beautiful this time of year!

Draw a leaf in the signature box of your agenda for a treat. Show it to me by Friday!

It's Been a Great Start! Welcome 2008-09 Third Graders

It's hard to believe we are finishing week three of school and getting ready for a holiday! I've enjoyed getting to know my new class, and I am excited about the new school year!
Here are a few reminders of things coming up in class!

*Please return permission slips and donations for the following upcoming field trips...
Cato Environmental Center-The $23 covers 5 field trips and buses for two out of school.
Performing Arts- Cost of $14. I have to have a permission slip from your child to attend. Please get these in as soon as possible. Thanks!
*We go the media center every week. Please keep up with books from our media center. Your child can go on line from home and look up books. The web site is on a sticker in the front of their agendas.
*Homework is daily. Please check your child's agenda for assignments to be completed and other items that may need your signature or need your assistance and be returned. Please sign your child's agenda daily. Papers go home every Thursday. Please sign and return the whole packet, then I will put a big red check on it and send it back. You will keep the packet at home, when you see the red check on the papers.
*Early Dimissal is Sept 16. Your child will be coming hom 2 hours earlier that day. (12:10)
* COGAT and ITBS testing will be Sept 7-26...this includes make-ups, etc.
These are very important tests! Please make sure your child is here on those days!

One More Week to Go!

Updates and Reminders
* We had a great Field Day yesterday! Thanks for those that were able to come out and help and support the kids on this special day.
* Homework- We will still have homework through Wednesday. Please continue to check your child's agenda daily.
* Have your child bring a sack for Thursday to take home desk and cubby items. They are not supposed to bring anything to school on Friday. We will count text books next week , so make sure your child has those returned to school by Monday. Thanks!C
* We will have special days Monday through Friday next week. Your child will have it written in their agenda, so they won't miss out on the fun! Monday will be something we will do in class....
* Our last Book Buddy time is Monday. If your child wants to make a card for their book buddy and bring it they can!
* Thursday, May 22 is our Sundae Party to celebrate our multiplication winners and to enjoy the ending of a great third grade year! We will begin at 1:00. Contact Mrs. Lundeberg if you have any questions or can help in any way!
* I will give the children my address if they want to write me a letter over the summer or send me a postcard from a vacation site! I would love to hear from everyone!

Spring is in the Air!

* We have had a great start with testing this week! Thanks to the parents for doing the practice tests at home. Four more days to go! Thanks for the great snacks and surpises that are coming in! We really look forward to snack after testing!
We celebrated Earth Day Tuesday by wearing green and blue. Our class wrote pledges and made Earth critters. I shared a neat book called Earth Day Birthday with the class. It was written like The Twelve Days of Christmas. We shared ways we can clean up our Earth and recycle. Our classs will be picking up trash as an activity to help the Earth.
*The Spring Fling was a big success! It was so good to see so many kids from our class there! It was a great day! Thanks to all who helped and donated time and items for the basket.
The next big event at our school is Evening in the Garden. There will be an Art Sale that night of all of the kid's art work!
*Please continue to check your child's agenda, sign it, and sign the papers sent home on Thursday. I will return them with a check on them. Thanks to all who are making the effort to do this.
I am looking forward to seeing and hearing your last book report on May 1st. If you need 4x6 cards or yarn let me know!
* Milkshake has a home for the summer! Josh will keep him over the summer months. I will have him back in the room when school begins, so you will have to come by and visit her! If anyone wants her for the weekend before school ends, let me know so we can plan for it.

Welcome Spring!

A Few Updates:
We are all looking forward to spring break! Let's continue to remember our hallway rules and lunch and bathroom manners. I expect everyone to be examples as we move through each day together! Thanks for everyone working together to be positive and focused these last weeks of school!
Everyone has a book for the next book report, which is due May 1st. If you need cards or yarn please ask. I will be glad to supply!
CRCT testing will be taking place on April 23rd. If you have extra #2 pencils you are willing to donate, please send them in ASAP! Thanks!
We had a beautiful day for our Friday field trip to the Root House and Marietta History Museum. The kids were well behaved and I know learned a lot! We had a nice lunch on the square afterwards!
Spring Fling is April 19th. from 4:00-8:00. If you have not helped out with this event, please send your money in an envelope addressed to Mrs. Lundeberg. This is a major fundraiser for our school. I hope to see everyone there!
Have a wonderful spring break , April 7-11. I look forward to seeing everyone back on April 14 ready to finish out the year!

Welcome March!!!

A Few Reminders ......
Registration forms for next year were sent home on Friday. Please fill those out and return by March 21, even if you know you are moving to another school or out of the area. I have to receive one back from everyone! Thanks ahead for getting these filled out and returned!
March 14th is Bingo Night at Ford...from 6:30-8:00. This is a fun night! I hope you can join us!
St. Patrick's Day is next Thursday, March 17. Bring a "green" snack to share and don't forget to wear GREEN!
Please wear a sport related outfit or shirt tomorrow for our class picture. We are including this in our Kids are Authors Too book. We will be sending it in this week. The children are really working hard! I'm very proud of their efforts! Way to Go Mrs. Barnett's Class- 2008!
This is the last week of the 9 weeks! Report cards go home on March 2oth! Let me know if you have any questions or concerns! Biography Reports and Desk Tops are due on March 20th also!

Snow at Ford

Today was one of our coldest days yet! We enjoyed seeing the snow this morning. We took black paper out and caught snowflakes while it was snowing. It was so cool to see the different shapes. We read a book last week called Snowflake Bentley. He actually tried to save snowflakes and photographed them....over the years he was able to photograph enough to make a book. It was fun observing the snowflakes before they melted!!!
Book Fair is coming up next week! A schedule was sent home this week. Please come by and visit and check out the new books!
We have Early Release Tuesday, Mar. 4th. Dismissal 12:10.
Lunch time for March 3rd and 5th will be 11:21, because of Fire Safety in 4th Grade.

Greetings From Mrs. Barnett

Happy Valentine's Day!!!! Hope everyone had a great day. the season of winter is stil here! Please dress warm on these cold days! We have had a busy week! I have really felt appreciated thsi week! It started out with a big chocolate chip cookie that said, "We Love Mrs. Barnett". M&M's arrived on Tuesday of assorted colors...lots of blue! Wednesday, I received precious cards from all of the children! I loved looking at the pictures and reading the notes...They made me smile and warmed my heart! Of course today beautiful flowers and balloons arrived from my wonderful third grade class! I have also received specail cards and candy today, too! I appreciate all of your thoughtfulness! I hoep you all had a great day too!!!! Please check out the news letter this week. There are some new dates to write down! One important one is the year book ordrs have been extended! The new date is Feb. 22. If you need an orderform let me know! The cost is $28.00. Biography Books were selected this week for our next book project. The information will come home today. I have some samples in class. We will talk about this in class, as well. I fyou have any questions. please let me know! If you read this put a heart in the signature bos. See you on Friday!!!

It's been a busy week with conferences! Thanks to all who came out for conferences. It was so nice catching up and going over your child's progress so far. Please continue to review facts and read every night. Jump Rope For Heart money needs to be turned in by Fri., Feb. 1st.

Important Information

Thanks for all of the responses for the conferences. I think we are good to go!

1. Please check your child's book bag tonight. I have some important items you all need to see!

* Six Flags Six Hour Reading Form
* One Hundredth Day of School Snack- Wed., Jan. 23rd
* Of course my "Newsy" Newsletter
* Send back the High Touch High Tech Permission slips if you have not already done so!

3. After looking over the papers, please send them back ASAP and I will check and send back
to you. I have been missing several sets.
4. Hope you all were able to get out and enjoy the snow! It was beautiful last night!!!! Too bad
we didn't get to stay home and enjoy it!
5. If you want to take Milkshake home for the weekend let me know. Josh D. will take her
home tomorrow and Ben will take her next Friday. Just put a note in your child's agenda or
e-mail me!

Happy New Year

Welcome Back Third Graders-2008

Hope you all had a relaxing time off with your families and friends! Here are a few reminders for this month.

1. Conference forms went home yesterday. Jan.8th. Thanks for those who have brought them back. Please check your calendars and get them back to me ASAP so I can get things scheduled.
2. Online CRCT practice sheet also went home yesterday. This sheet has the web site and your child's password on it. Let me know if it doesn't work or if you have any problems!
3. The children will be going to the library on Friday. The next book report will be Feb. 8th.
4. Jan 17 is the Skull Study at Ford. This is connected with the environmental park studies we are doing. They will come to us this time!
5. The children will be choosing another poem to memorize soon. We will share these poems on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14.
6. We will see our Book Buddies for hot chocolate on February 1st.
7. Let me know if you would like Milkshake to join you for the weekend. I will be making out a schedule soon. We have the next two weekends booked.
